It is the purpose of this article to provide some basic information on the relationship between health and mind. The relationship between the two is vital to our overall wellness. Whether we are aware of this or not, a good health depends upon a good mind.
Health is an ideal state of mental, physical and social well being in which illness and infirmity do not exist. The words ‘healthy’normal’ are associated with one another in many ways. For example, a healthy person is one that has no mental or physical ailments. When the words ‘healthy’unhealthy’ are used to describe someone, the word healthy often means “not diseased”, while unhealthy may mean “definitely infected with an illness”. These terms are based on the assumption that ‘healthy’unhealthy’ are relative states of health, meaning the difference in what the healthy person might be like and what an unhealthy person would be like is determined by the extent of the person’s illness.
In addition, people tend to define ‘healthy’ as not only feeling ‘good’ physically, but also as feeling ‘good’ emotionally. However, physical well being and emotional well being are closely linked. Therefore, a healthy person who is emotionally unhappy may actually be more unhealthy than a happy, healthy person.
A healthy body provides protection from sickness and injury. A healthy body can live longer and be healthier than a sick body. A healthy body is also able to protect and heal itself. It can take care of itself and fight illness and injury, which leads to a longer life and improved health.
On the other hand, health and mental health are not the same thing. Some mental illnesses have physical consequences, such as heart attacks or diabetes. The fact is that mental health is far more complex than its physical counterpart because it includes aspects of both physical and mental health and can differ greatly among different people.
So, how does a healthy mind lead to a healthy body and vice versa? The answer is that a healthy body depends on a healthy mind. A mind that is healthy in mental, physical and spiritual health is able to fight illness and injury, maintain its internal balance, and maintain the strength of the body.
Mental health is also not as simple as it seems. There are a variety of disorders that can impact people’s mental health. These disorders include major depression, bipolar disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety disorder, social phobia, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, etc. Some of these disorders affect people in their daily lives, while others affect them at the social level. Although the symptoms of these disorders are similar, they are actually quite different in their treatment, because they are treated differently.
When people’s health and wellness are taken into consideration, people have more control over their bodies and can plan a more healthy lifestyle. There is no reason for anyone to suffer from an illness, especially if they can manage to cure it themselves. Therefore, it is important to think about a person’s mental and physical health, because prevention is better than treating and curing an illness.
